The Liberals EXPENSED their Celebration Drinks!

Stephen Taylor pointed out yesterday that for someone who is so concerned about money being spent on "beer and popcorn", Scott Reid sure spends a lot of money at pubs, and passes that expense on to Canadians.

One of these expense items stood out a little more for me, as I recognized the date. It was expensed (ie. paid for by Canadians) as a "Dinner meeting to discuss media briefing", on May 19th of this year.

Let's look at this item a little more closely...

"Discuss media briefing" at Suite 34? I don't think so. Let's investigate what the Liberals were really doing at Suite 34 on May 19th:.

"OTTAWA—Partying Liberals were treated Thursday night to the incredible sight of Belinda Stronach, Canada's new human resources minister, and Tim Murphy, the Prime Minister's chief of staff, dancing atop a speaker at an Ottawa bar.

The tune? "Material Girl," by Madonna."
.. later in the article..

"In that speech, Martin talked about how Liberals needed to seek renewed confidence from Canadians and get to work. "Tomorrow ...," he added after a pause, perhaps contemplating that Murphy, Stronach and the hordes headed to Suite 34 in the Byward Market might want to pretend for an evening that bare survival is the same as triumph"
So, to summarize:
1) The Liberals went to Suite 34, after the vote on May 19th.
2) They celebrated, victory dance atop speakers, material girl, etc.
3) They expensed it, and called it a "dinner meeting to discuss media briefing".

Paul Martin, what is your excuse for this?

Update: This is Suite 34, the kind of place where Liberals are spending money that belongs to Canadians. Look at the pictures and you'll get the idea.

But if that money had been given to Canadians and their families, we would have spent it on something frivolous like food and drink rather than slamdancing the pyrrhic victory of an ex Bill Clinton pump monkey.

$26.50?
Can you even run up a bar tab that low?

Good work! I did some digging through a number of the other staff listed on the website, and as far as I can see, Reid's the only one who had the balls to submit an expense claim for that night. Certainly fits his persona. The man's a completely amoral viper as far as I'm concerned.

I also posted a comment at Stephen Taylor's blog linking back to here.

In Liberal circles, this type of expense is now called the, "Dingwall Entitled to My Entitlement", claim.

I would be interested to know if such expenses for hospitality are personal taxable benefits, therefore to be disclosed at income tax time?

First off, I don't think these people should be allowed to expense bar tabs, period.

Second, I think expenses should only be allowable if they relate to government business, not party strategy.

I'd make the screen shot bigger, but it gets too blurry. If someone can send me a bigger jpeg, bmp, whatever, please do. :)

The really bad this about this is that Ontario voters accept this as part of life and will reelect the Liberals thus justifying this kind of BS. It will play well in Ontario but not in the West or Quebec. I fear we are headed towards very uncertain times.

Kudos for the hard work, digging and well-documented result.

I've put a short post and link to this article at my site:

$26.50?

Imagine what Reid would do with $1200.00!!

Maybe he's trying to stop Harper's policies becuase he know HE would blow it on beer and popcorn.

"I have seem the enemy and it is Reid"

When it came to Darcy McGees where I noticed Scott had parked his liberal red arse many a time on a friday afternoon. Most of us who have been there on a friday during the unfortunate Liberal hayday of the Chretien era(1997-01)...that is when staffers from Herb Grey's and John Manley's office showed up consistantly to booz it up, along with the guzzling Reid et al.

Well let me tell you...they weren't paying and either was he. The guy below(because I witnessed it and got a few free beer/pitchers from him) payed the entire beer tab from late winter to early summer. No shit! The entire tab. We're talking at least 20-30 libs from the PMO and elsewhere. One night I think the tab was over a $1000.00. No wonder they finally brokered the military contracts.

Anyway, this guy is a legend and the Norm Peterson of running up bar tabs in Ottawa. So don't let the $26.50 he reported fool you.

Rod Scotty, vice president of business development for Lockheed Martin Canada was the one paying.

The Liberals look at our money as their's. I wonder if Scott has paid for a drink with his own money in the last few years?
