MORRISSEY COMPARES SEAL HUNT TO THE HOLOCAUST
Morrissey announced that he is boycotting Canada to protest the seal hunt. If it hadn't been the largest headline on Bourque today, I wouldn't have noticed. I can't name a single Morrissey song.
He also trigged Godwin's law, comparing the jobs created by the seal hunt to the jobs created by the German gas chambers, thus undermining his credibility completely.

I may be getting too old for pop music but who the hell is Morrissey. Never hear of him before.
Whew. For a moment there I thought you were talking about Captain Ed. That would've been way out of character for him.
Who the hell is Morrissey. Think I've heard of him but have no idea what songs he did.
Let me get this straight - he is comparing the harvesting of seals to the gas chamber murder of 6 million Jews. Does he really want that type of anti-semitic attention. Is he bright enough to realize what he is saying.
I for one am gonna go hard to publicize this racist anti-semitic twit.
Morrissey used to be a Smith, of The Smiths fame.
The ironic thing is that he wears leather.
Sorry I never heard of the Smiths either. I must be out of touch with music these days.
I've heard of the Smiths and I've heard of Morrisey, I just don't think they're very good.
I was far more hurt when the Barenaked Ladies endorsed Layton.
I read his comments and thought of the same thing.
Yes, the Holocaust is the same as the seal hunt... and yes, Morrissey, you ARE culturally revelvant.
I blogged about the same thing a few minutes ago... it's idiotic I tell you!
I don't care about Morrisey. I don't care about McCartney. I don't care about B. Bardot. I don't care about Dr. David Suzuki. Now, if I could just figger out how to set that to some popular lyrics, I guess that would qualify me to express opinions about, let's say, African politics. No, wait a minute ... the origins of the universe. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And some furry-headed folk will actually assume that because I can write a song I know my ass from a hole in the ground and give me lots and lots of air time where I can rant and rant about cute and cuddly this and that and generally fart in the wind with great gusto.
On a serious note, I live in Alberta where we are enjoying some new legitimacy on the national stage. It turns out that at $60/bbl we’re not quite the “right wing, extremist, christian fundamentalist, knuckle-draggin’ rednecks” that our eastern liberal media and politicians thought. Now we're getting more of the "Lookit, here, mom. These Albertans can actually think and have some values. Good golly, they're family!" Ironic, isn't it?
ps: I'm still sending $$ to the P.Q. if they have another referendum. Sorry, my faith in Canada is long gone.
TT: Hope your uncle is comfortable.
I'm a vegetarian, and always admired Paul McCartney's being the same, because he seemed to do so in an understated non-preachy way. I am embarrassed by his wading into this. Before this, he was involved in ending the use of land mines, an uphill struggle, and many nations will not give them up. But I think he was working on promoting protocols to ensure more "responsible" mine use. That may sound like an oxymoron, but responsible mine use means keeping accurate maps of mine fields laid, so they can be cleared when no longer needed, and making them with a built in expiry so they will become inactive after a time. That was a much more worthy cause for someone of his stature than protesting seal hunts.
As a vegetarian, I would be more willing to eat hunted wild meat. It's the factory farming methods that cause health concerns for me. I do not agree with the concept of "animal rights". Rights are a human invention, that we give to each other, and unfortunately sometimes take away. Animals deserve our highest respect, and we should avoid unnecessary suffering when we kill them. But rights? Where's my cat's lawyer? So I have one leather jacket. There is simply no substitute if you fall off your motorcycle. The leather will wear down as you slide along the road, and perhaps give you a burn, but will not fuse to your skin like synthetics will.
We should all go out and buy Morrissey's latest CD. Listening to it is not required. When he sees the sales going up here, do you think he will still stay away? He'll make an excuse to pardon us and show up, just like he made an excuse to skip the tour since the CD sales were soft.
Yesterday, Pamela Anderson weighed in on the Great Seal Hunt Scandal. She asked to see the Prime Minister and was SOOooo disappointed that he declined. That's a real poser, alright. Airhead TV star with big knockers wants to offer her opinion on a matter of science and economics and Harper declines.... Yup, missed opportuiity there to gain some real insight into the issue, Mr. Harper. We hope these missteps will not continue.
Meanwhile, it is a real eye-opener to learn that not only do musicians have unused talents in the fields of biology and economics, but so do the well-endowed! Who knew?

What is all this stuff?
I think it's like speaking in tongues - only digitally. The rest of us can't understand it because we haven't received our Enlightened 3-D Glasses.
Moose Hunter, thank you for the best laugh I've had in months. As for Morrissey, as someone who has flirted with imagery usually employed by far-right groups, he may not be in the best position to condemn others...
From my point of view, our collective treatment of animals is symptomatic of the extent to which our society is out of sync with our natural environment. I believe that we must strive to achieve a better balance between our needs and those of the rest of the natural world.
On a personal level, I have always stood against all forms of trophy and commercial hunting on a massive scale. As a Canadian, I stop short of saying that the people of the North should not hunt seals at all, as I know that this has long played an important role as a traditional source of food and clothing for extreme northern winters.
Just some thoughts...

Yes you people are right not everyone has heard/likes Morrissey but there are plenty of Canadian fans out there that absolutely adore him, he's not asking anyone to care he's just saying im not stepping foot inside to sing infront of a canadian audience that LIKES him, until it stops ok.
