WHY I SUPPORT THE MISSION IN AFGHANISTAN

There are a number of reasons, and here's a hint - Terrorism isn't even in the top 5.

Afghanistan is for me, first and foremost, a humanitarian mission. How anyone can read these links and not support the mission in Afghanistan is beyond me:

Humanity Denied: Systematic Violation of Women's Right in Afghanistan

Women in Post-Taliban Afghanistan

"Taliban decrees have greatly restricted women's movement, behavior, and dress, and in fact, virtually all aspects of their lives. In public, women are required under threat of severe punishment to wear the chadari, and to be accompanied by a close male relative at all times. Violations of the dress code, in particular, can result in public beatings and lashing by the Religious Police, who wield leather batons reinforced with metal studs. Women are not permitted to work outside the home except in the area of health care, and girls over eight years old are not permitted to attend school. According to reports on Afghanistan by the U.N. Special Rapporteur on violence against women, these decrees are generally more strictly enforced in urban areas, and are especially targeted against educated women who, before the Taliban took power, accounted for 70 percent of all teachers, about 50 percent of civil servants, and 40 percent of medical doctors in the country.

These decrees have had a significant negative impact on women's lives. The rate of illiteracy among girls in Afghanistan is now over 90 percent. The restriction on women's mobility has meant that women do not enjoy satisfactory access to health care. As a result, an estimated forty-five women die everyday from pregnancy-related causes."

I support the mission to Afghanistan.

I think it is no coincidence that the Taliban killed a female Canadian soldier the day of the commons vote. They do follow our media. In their twisted view, we give our women rights, and they would like to demonstrate that rights will get you killed. Like terrorism against democracies is ok to punish us for electing governments they disapprove of. And since they also believe that women are stupid, and we are stupid for giving them rights, we will run away home because we're such sucks. We can't even control our own women, because we gave them rights.

And that is exactly why we are there, and why will will stay there.

Despite those who believe debating the matter in parliament gives comfort to the enemy, all it does is demonstrate that we do think about what we do, like a functioning democracy, not just blindly follow some mullah, and we will stand for the people of Afghanistan to be able to do the same. I would actually prefer to see the extensions come in one year increments, so we get more opportunities to demonstrate that we are behind this.

Commenter #1 sure put a lot of effort into his response. At least the oppponents of the Afghan mission are thinking their positions through.

liberal supporter: The Tallyban are not supermen. A female soldier died becuase that is what soldiers do. We can be humble and grateful but we do not need to read any tea leaves. The Tallyban are nothing more than ignorant, extremist, cowardly bullies who hunt in packs. It doesn't matter that I am Christian and they are Muslim. They remain ignorant, extremist, cowardly bullies who hunt in packs.

Our liberal media blather on at every opportunity about how violence will only create more terrorists. B.S.! Human hyenas exist. They need to be dealt with - for all the reasons posted here and also for our own security. There is a solution to new arrivals in Afghanistan of these people we call "terrorists". It is one word: "Reload".

ps: Read a recent edition of Western Standard for an article on how our Lieberal government betrayed a team of Canadian snipes in Afghanistan. It will turn your stomach. They were obviously assisted by some at DND/Ottawa who probably wanted to impress their political bosses by demonstrating a keen eye for what is politically correct and that only makes the story all the sadder.

I wonder if we would have made any fuss if a Canadian soldier had allegedly put a "Nazi" sign on a dead concentration camp guard in 1945. I think not! I don't see any difference except only for race and religion, but I guess those really do matter in this modern Canada, don't they? It must be hard to be a combat soldier and know there are those at home who will curl up their nose at the smell on your uniform after having sent you to clean up a pile of shyt.

yah. We need to liberate their women so instead of being compelled to wear the burqa they can "CHOOSE" to wear it like they do in Montreal's NDGistan.
